Historical Re-enactors is a photographic and interview-based project exploring the people who recreate lives from the past.
Each participant was photographed twice: once as themselves and once in the historical identity they inhabit through re-enactment. The paired portraits examine the relationship between the contemporary individual and the character, period or community they have chosen to represent.
The project asks what draws people towards another time and what re-enactment can provide that may be harder to find within everyday life.
