Brazilian Oral Histories is a series of six short documentary films exploring the lives of Brazilians living in the East Midlands. Through intimate interviews and observational footage, each film follows one person’s journey from a different region of Brazil, reflecting on the places they left behind, the lives they have built in Britain and the ways memory, culture and identity travel with them.
Created in close collaboration with the contributors, the films allow each person to tell their story in their own voice. Together, they form a varied portrait of Brazilian life in the UK, celebrating the distinct voices and cultures of Brazil’s lesser-known regions. Set in the East Midlands, the project creates a connection between two culturally rich regions and brings their stories, identities and diversity into greater view.
